Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the first Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award for his selfless service to the nation and society at the 80th annual Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Awards ceremony in Mumbai on 24 April 2022.
After inaugurating and laying the foundation of multiple development projects in Jammu and Kashmir, PM Modi reached Mumbai to attend the first Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award.
After receiving the coveted award, PM Modi reminisced the legendary singer and said,
Lata Didi was like an elder sister to me and after many decades, the coming Rakhi festival will be the first one without her, the PM said.
“When the award is in the name of an elder sister like Lata Didi, it is a symbol of her oneness and love for me. So, it’s not possible for me not to accept. I dedicate this award to all the countrymen,” he added.
The Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award was instituted in the memory and honour of Lata Mangeshkar, who died at the age of 92 on February 6.
PM Modi expressed his gratitude for receiving the award in a tweet on Saturday. He wrote, “Tomorrow evening, I will be in Mumbai where I will receive the Ist Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award. I am grateful and humbled by this honour associated with Lata Didi. She always dreamt of a strong and prosperous India and contributed to nation-building,”.
For the unversed, the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Awards aim to recognize and honour the extraordinary individuals from the field of music, drama, art, medical and social work.
