Thaikkudam Bridge accuses Rishab Shetty’s latest release of plagiarism

Here’s what we know…

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara, which has received rave reviews and box office success, has now encountered a stumbling block in the form of controversy. Thaikkudam Bridge, a well-known Kerala music band, accused the Kantara film of plagiarism. The music band stated that the film’s Varaha Roopam song is a rip-off of their song, Navarasam.

Thaikkudam Bridge announced on Instagram on Monday that they will be suing the creators of Kantara for plagiarism. The band stated in their post that the team had engaged in blatant infringement of copyright laws because the song Varaha Roopam was copied from their song, Navarasam.

Thaikkudam Bridge posted a collage poster of the song Navarasam and Varaha Roopam along with a statement that read, “We would like our listeners to know that Thaikkudam Bridge is in no way or form affiliated with “Kantara”. The unavoidable similarities between our IP “Navarasam” and “Varaha Roopam” in terms of audio is, therefore, a blatant infringement of copyright laws. From our standpoint the line between “Inspired” and “Plagiarized” is distinct and indisputable and therefore, we will be seeking legal action against the creative team responsible for this. There has been no acknowledgement of our rights over the content and the song is propagated as an Original piece of work by the movie’s creative team.”

The Kantara team, on the other hand, has yet to respond to plagiarism reports. Kantara, written and directed by Rishab Shetty, who also plays the lead role, is tearing up the box office and is on its way to earning Rs 200 crore.
