Swati Maliwal urges Union Information and Broadcasting Minister to remove Sajid Khan from Salman Khan hosted show

Mumbai: Swati Maliwal, the head of the Delhi Commission for Women, has written to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur, demanding that filmmaker Sajid Khan be removed from the reality show Bigg Boss. Several women accused the filmmaker of sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour during the #MeToo movement in 2018. The Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) suspended Sajid Khan for a year in 2018 after multiple women accused him of sexual harassment.

“Ten women had accused Sajid Khan of sexual harassment during the #MeToo movement. All these complaints show the disgusting mentality of Sajid. Now, this man has been given a place in Bigg Boss, which is wrong. I have written to @ianuragthakur to have Sajid Khan removed from this show,” Maliwal said in a Hindi tweet on Monday. On October 1, the first episode of Bigg Boss’ 16th season aired.

Despite the outrage on social media, the subject was not addressed on the show, and Sajid Khan instead blamed his downfall on his “arrogance.” The show is hosted by Salman Khan, who greeted the filmmaker warmly, adding to fans’ disappointment.

While many celebrities have remained silent on the matter, others, such as Sona Mohapatra, have condemned his participation and chastised those who have remained silent, including Farhan Akhtar. Actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee is the latest to criticise the show, telling Aaj Tak,“It breaks my heart to see him on national television, trying to prove he is a hero. I feel bad thinking where is our society headed, she said.
