Ali Asgar: My kids used to get teased in school as I played female characters

Mumbai| Ali Asgar, a television actor who rose to prominence after playing Kamal Agarwal in daily soap Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, surprised everyone when he appeared as a female character in Comedy Nights With Kapil. He was then seen in The Kapil Sharma Show as Basanti, Dadi, and other female characters.

While his performances were one of the highlights of the comedy show and made everyone laugh their heart out, the characters had no positive impact on his children.

On Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10, his son and daughter spoke out about being bullied at school because of their father’s portrayal of female characters. In his interaction with the media, Ali also spoke at length about the subject. The actor and comedian stated that he only accepted female roles because he was unemployed.

According to a leading portal, Ali said, “My kids used to get teased in school as I played female characters. I was sceptical about playing Daadi also as my kids were young at that time. They were in 4 or 5th standard. They used to get mocked as I played Basanti’s role, they would get ‘Arre iska baap basanti hai’, iski do do maa hai’. Once, on a Saturday, we were having dinner with the entire family, my show was playing on Television and there was an announcement that I will come as a bahu. My son just got up and asked me ‘Aap ko aur kuch aata nahi hai?'”

“Bechara Chota baccha asked me, don’t you know anything else to do? He shared with me, that you don’t know I get mocked in my school because you play only female characters. I just ignored everything. In Sunday’s episode, I was again dressed as a female, he just walked off from the dinner table,” he added.

Ali also claimed that he was trolled online and referred to as “na-mard” by some users.
