SRK speaks about ‘negative impact of social media’ owing boycott trend for his upcoming release

On Thursday, Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan inaugurated the 28th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival. SRK, who is awaiting the release of Pathaan, spoke at the event about the negative effects of social media and the negativity that spreads in society through social media platforms. Since the release of Pathaan’s song “Besharam Rang,” the hashtag “Boycott Pathaan” has been trending on Twitter. People on social media are objecting to the green and saffron costumes of SRK and Deepika Padukone in the song. Some are also digging up old Shah Rukh videos and calling for a boycott of his upcoming film.

SRK said at KIFF 2022, without mentioning the social media reactions to Pathaan, that “cinema and the advent of articulation through social media platforms have now become the foremost expression of human emotions and experiences.” “The collective narrative of our times is shaped by social media, and contrary to the belief that the spread of social media will affect cinema negatively, I believe cinema has an even more important role to play now.”

In his speech, Shah Rukh Khan also emphasized the importance of cinema, calling it the most important medium of the modern era. He stated, “Cinema exposes the vulnerability of human nature by telling stories in their simplest form, as they are lived. It allows us to know each other better. In a way, it is best placed to sustain a collective counter-narrative that speaks to the larger nature of humankind, a narrative that brings to the fore that humanity has an immense capacity for compassion, unity, and brotherhood.”

King khan concluded, “No matter what the world does, people like us will stay positive.”

SRK will be promoting Pathaan during the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and France.
