Sonakshi Sinha on essaying the role of a cop: This is very different from Chulbul Panday

Sonakshi Sinha is back on screen with her debut web series, Dahaad. The trailer of the upcoming show released on Thursday and shows her as a fearless cop who is trying to nab a serial killer.

Interestingly, Sonakshi forayed into films 13 years back with Salman Khan’s Dabangg (2010), where the superstar’s portrayal of a cop changed the representation of police in mainstream cinema. Talking about whether her career has come a full circle as she is essaying a cop now, Sonakshi at the press conference told, “Why should boys have all the fun? We are representing more real and stronger women onscreen today. There are so many stories waiting to be told. Dahaad is just one such story that came to me. I think I got really lucky with this one. As an actor, very rarely do you come by these roles that hit you so bad in your face that just makes you want to do it. As a cop, this is very different from Chulbul Panday.”

Sharing her thoughts on representation of female cop over the years, Sonakshi said, “Onscreen representation of women cops have actually been very far and few. There’s no one particular character that sticks out right now at the top of my head. But I hope Anjali Bhati becomes that character we refer to when we talk about the portrayal of women cops in Hindi cinema. I hope more people end up saying more stories of such women.”

Talking about Dahaad, it’s an eight-episode series revolving around sub-inspector Anjali Bhaati and her colleagues in a small town who are trying to catch a mysterious serial killer played by none other than Darlings fame Vijay Varma .
