Siddharth Pithani granted bail in drugs case by Bombay high court

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court granted bail to Sushant Singh Rajput’s housemate Siddharth Pithani more than two years after his death. On Monday, the court granted Pithani bail after he was detained in May 2021 in Hyderabad in a drugs case. Prior to Pithani, the late actor’s former lover and actress Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty, and staff members at the late actor’s apartment were all detained in connection with the drugs case.

Rhea was given bail after three months, while her brother Showik was released later. Pithani was granted bail over a year after his detention by a single bench of Justice Bharati Dangre on a Rs 50,000 bond.

According to news reports, Pithani was charged with, among other things, violating Section 27 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (funding illicit commerce and sheltering criminals).

He had requested bail, saying that he had been falsely accused in a fake case. Pithani further stated that he was never caught in possession of narcotics and that nothing indicating his involvement in drug trafficking was collected from him.

For the unversed, Siddharth Pithani shared a luxury flat in Mumbai’s Bandra district with Sushant Singh Rajput. He was also present when the late actor died at home. It was generally claimed that drugs were consumed by Siddharth Pithani, Rhea Chakraborty, Showik Chakraborty, and the late actor. However, neither the Mumbai Police nor the CBI investigations have yielded any tangible proof. Investigators have likewise kept their results under wraps
