Shahid Kapoor on comparison of action films with Hollywood cinema: I think Indian films are getting better

Shahid Kapoor is anticipating the premiere of his new movie Bloody Daddy after he recently delighted audiences with his OTT debut series Farzi. The trailer for the movie was published on May 24. At the launch event, the actor opened up about the OTT medium gaining momentum and action films being compared to Hollywood films.

At the trailer launch Shahid was asked about the coexistence of theatres and OTT in today’s times.
The actor stated, “A few years ago, people who were open to change kind of recognised that OTT as a digital platform was going to explode. The accessibility and comfort of that platform cannot be ignored; it is a reality, and it is going to happen. I think we’re very fortunate to be in a time where we can divide our energies into separate areas and actually work in separate areas that are very different from each other. Watching content at home is more like a comfortable experience and going to theatres is like an event experience where you go to a theatre, and spend a day out with family. Both have their place. I don’t see theatre and OTT colliding with each other. I see them coexisting next to each other as two very, very good options.

So even though a lot of people wanted this film to be in theatres, theatre exhibitors called us up and spoke to us about it. But we kind of stuck to what we truly, truly had envisioned for this film, which was creating a film that is a big screen experience for the OTT platform.”

He further shared what it was like doing an action film. He also shared that no one can predict what the audience wants to see. “I did Kabir Singh which is the biggest hit of my life and it’s an adult film. People felt Kabir Singh will reach a limited audience but it ended up being the biggest success of my life. Today no one knows what the audience wants to see. Let’s relearn, let’s become students again. Let’s be open to the fact that we don’t know everything. Cinema is growing and post Covid we’re in a different phase so I don’t think anything flies anymore. A good film is a good film, and a bad film is a bad. Everybody steps into a viewing experience with expectations, and hope we live up to them”, said the actor.

Talking about Indian action films being compared to the films in west, the a tie said, “I think Indian films are getting better. What Hindi films offer, that Hollywood can’t. I think we have forgotten that experience in recent time. But things will come on track once good films start rolling out.
