Mumbai court to hear Kangna’s plea on 11th Aug against lawsuit filed by Javed Akhtar

Kangana Ranaut has urged a Mumbai court to record her sister Rangoli Chandel’s evidence in the defamation lawsuit filed by veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar. Ranaut filed the application before Metropolitan Magistrate R R Khan on Friday, with the help of her lawyer, Advocate Rizwan Siddique. The court has rescheduled the hearing for August 11th.

Ranaut appeared before the Metropolitan Magistrates’ Court last month and pleaded not guilty. In November 2020, Akhtar filed a court complaint alleging that Ranaut had hurt his reputation by making false statements against him in a broadcast interview.

In his lawsuit, Akhtar said that Ranaut dragged his name during an interview while referring to a “coterie” that exists in Bollywood in the aftermath of actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s suspected suicide.

Ranaut has filed a counter-complaint with the metropolitan magistrate court, charging Akhtar of defamation. “extortion and criminal intimidation.”
In her lawsuit against Akhtar, the actor claimed that following a public fight with her co-star, the poet invited her and her sister Rangoli to his house with “malafide intents and ulterior objectives” before “criminally intimidating and threatening” her.

Meanwhile, Kangana is presently filming her next Indira Gandhi biopic Emergency, and she is also working on Tejas.
