Ajay Devgn on winning national award with Suriya: I am elated

The 68th National Film Awards were announced on Friday afternoon at the National Media Centre in New Delhi, with the honours for films from the year 2020. The event is organised by the Directorate of Film Festivals, which comes under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Talents from all realms of film-related categories are awarded for their commendable work.

Ajay Devgn responded to his third best actor prize for Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior. Ajay also complimented Soorarai Pottru’s co-winner Suriya. According to Ajay’s official statement, “I’m elated to win the Best Actor Award for Tanhaji—The Unsung Warrior at the 68th National Awards along with Suriya who won for Soorarai Pottru. I thank everyone, most of all my creative team, the audience and my fans. I also express my gratitude to my parents & the Almighty for their blessings. Congratulations to all the other winners.”

Aparna Balamurali from Soorarai Pottru gets the best actress at the National Film Awards 2022. Where Biju Menon was named Best Supporting Actor for his work in Ayyappanum Koshiyam.

Sivaranjaniyum Innam Sila Pengallum’s Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli was named Best Supporting Actress. Soorarai Pottru’s screenplay was won by Shalini Usha Nair and Sudha Kongara.

Ajay Devgn’s film Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior receives the 68th National Picture Awards for best popular film offering pure enjoyment and Suriya’s Telugu film Soorarai Pottru has been named the best feature film at the National Film Awards 2022.

On his victory for Soorarai Pottru, GV Prakash tweeted, “One day you will make it big …. One day you will win … one day everything will happen the way you want …. And after a long wait finally, the day arrives.”

Music Director Vishal Bhardwaj bagged the award for best music direction for 1232 Kms: Marenge Toh Wahin Jaakar ( 1232 Kms – Will Die there only ). Elated on receiving the award, Vishal Bhardwaj said, “I’m so happy to get an award for the film which represents and acknowledges the pain that the whole country and especially the migrant workers went through in the Covid-19 pandemic. The song was actually a poem that Gulzar Saab wrote to express the suffocating feelings of not being able to do anything to help the migrants. It was a catharsis for both of us which we expressed through Sukhwinder’s voice in Vinod Kapri’sheart-wrenching documentary 1232 KMs.”

Overall, this year’s submissions included 305 feature films in 30 different languages. In the non-feature film category, 148 films from 28 languages were submitted. Entries were accepted in 15 languages other than those authorised in the Constitution’s 8th schedule.
