CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan announces Phase 2 of COVID campaign

According to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, no public rallies will be held during this period by any of the public representatives.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday announced the second phase of coronavirus campaign in the state, aimed at tackling the spread of the contagion. Speaking to his ministers via video conferencing as he himself is recovering from COVID-19, CM Chouhan said the second phase would run for two weeks from August 1 to 14.

Stress will be on to ensure social distancing and wearing of masks during this phase of the COVID campaign.

“We had a COVID campaign from 1-31 July wherein tests were done extensively. Phase 2 of the campaign will be from 1-14 August wherein we’ll resolve to maintain social distancing and wear masks to break chain of infection,” the MP CM said.

The CM said no public rallies will be held during this period by any of the public representatives. Further, no inauguration ceremonies whether religious in nature or otherwise would be permitted.

“During this period, the CM, ministers, MLAs and other public representatives won’t have any public rallies. Foundation stone laying ceremonies, ‘bhoomi pujan’, inaugurations and all functions where a large crowd gathers, will be prohibited. These can be done via video conferencing,” the BJP leader told his ministers.

He instructed that ministers can meet the public but there should not be more than five people in the office anytime of the day.

“If it’s essential then you can visit places, but I urge you to ensure that no large crowd gathers anywhere. You can meet people in your office but to maintain social distancing, you have to ensure that no more than 5 people are present there at a time,” Chouhan stated.

The CM, meanwhile, proposed that all ministers contribute 30 per cent of their salaries to the CM Relief Fund. “If all of you agree, then we will contribute 30  per cent of our salary towards CM Relief Fund, to fight COVID-19, until the pandemic doesn’t come under control be it July, August, September or October. I appeal to all MLAs to contribute 30 per cent of their salaries for 3 months towards CM Relief Fund, in the fight against COVID-19. I also appeal to the people to give their contribution to the Fund.”

As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Madhya Pradesh has a total of 8,454 active COVID-19 cases, while the number of cured and discharged stands at 21,657 as of 8 am Friday. The state has recorded a total of 857 deaths so far from coronavirus.
