AAP welcomes Aarey Metroshed site being cleared and closed

Mumbai: The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday welcomed the clearing and shutting down of Metro-3 carshed in Aarey. Aam Aadmi Party has been at the forefront of the movement to save Aarey since its inception.

It maybe recalled that it was was members of Aam Aadmi Party who along with citizen activists automated the objection filing system to the BMC Tree authority which resulted into the highest and unprecedented number of objections filed. Aam Aadmi Party has also moved the Bombay High Court and secured a stay for over a year during which no new tree was cut. We have worked on the ground with the indigenous tribal population to safeguard Aarey’s biodiversity as well providing emergency legal aid to activists and volunteers who were being harassed by the Fadnavis led BJP govt.

“The Aam Aadmi Party has always led from the front, especially for environmental issues in Mumbai. We were the first political party to take up the issue and organised marches, satyagrahas and a jail bharo on ground. It is to be noted that Aarey along with SGNP is the only urban forest in the world. It is rich in biodiversity and happens to be the force and catchment area for one of the two rivers of Mumbai”, said Preeti Sharma-Menon, AAP National Executive Committee Member.

We thank the state government and the Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray for supporting the people’s movement. The Fadnavis government will forever be remembered for being on the wrong side of history, for ordering lathi charge, imposing curfew on young Mumbaikars who were peacefully protesting against government actions.
