Visakhapatnam :  The City police shifted Akhil Sai Venkat, an accused in the murder of a 17-year-old girl, to the Central jail on Tuesday. Venkat, a law student and resident of Chittinaidu colony, had allegedly slit the girl’s throat after a heated argument with her on Sunday. The girl bled to death. He had called the girl, an intermediate student, to a nearby Sai Baba temple. Though she was busy with wedding preparations in the family, Venkat managed to meet the girl, a resident of Srinagar Colony in Gajuwaka, said the police.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that Venkat’s father had been a rowdy-sheeter. “Venkat’s father had a rowdy-sheet opened against him in the past,” confirmed Visakhapatnam police commissioner Manish Kumar Sinha . Police are gathering more information about the family of the accused. The state government gave an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the girl’s family.
