Mumbai: Everyone was stunned by the US Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, and public figures like Michelle Obama and others have spoken out against the decision to restrict access to abortion.

Celebrities have been protesting the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark ruling that safeguarded women’s reproductive rights. A number of states will outlaw abortion as a result of the decision. Priyanka Chopra didn’t respond to the news herself, but she did repost Michelle Obama’s Instagram post to her Instagram story.

Priyanka conveyed her sorrow at the recent US Supreme Court ruling in her Instagram stories. Chopra added another piece that included a political cartoon contrasting American gun rights with abortion rights in addition to reposting a tragic statement made by Michelle Obama. The current backstep has gained a boost as a result of Roe v. Wade being overturned after almost 50 years as one of the major victories for women’s rights.

Michelle Obama in her statement wrote how the decision has left her “heartbroken” as she wrote, “So yes, I am heartbroken – for the teenage girl, full of zest and promise, who won’t be able to finish school or live the life she wants because her state controls her reproductive decisions; for the mother of a nonviable pregnancy who is now forced to bring that pregnancy to term; for the parents watching their child’s future evaporate before their very eyes; for the health care workers who can no longer help them without risking jail time.”

A number of celebrities responded to the unexpected decision on social media, including Hailey Bieber, who tweeted a headline about it and commented she was “speechless.” She went on to write, “What an extreme loss and disappointment. This is really really scary.”
