Review

Known for having a knack of the rom-com genre, Luv Ranjan’s latest outing is a fun, predictable and yet totally relatable take on modern-day relationships. The film is rooted in Indian values as it deals with the aspirations of millennial Indians.

If you are familiar with Luv Ranian’s brand of youthful romcoms, you must know that they often represent young lovelorn men, who find themselves dancing to the tunes of manipulative girlfriends. Even with TJMM, we see Mickey pleading to Tinny to stay back.

Luv Ranjan’s story is interesting and even the screenplay is effective. While the sequences are predictable, it’s the perfect comic timing and hilarious dialogues that keep you hooked. Well, we can’t forget to mention about the surprising moments in the flick that blows our mind and make us hoot. What hinders is, the writing drags a bit and gets verbose at places in the first half. Also, a few sequences seem unconvincing. Well, it’s the second half that makes for an interesting watch with an endearing climax.

When it comes to performances, Ranbir Kapoor is back with a bang at what he is best at. While we just can’t stop drooling over his chiselled abs, we can’t deny he was perfect with his emotions. Albeit, the underwhelming monologue, the actor is a delight to watch. His crackling chemistry with Shraddha Kapoor is something to look out for. The two really look refreshing.

Shraddha Kapoor leaves us gushing over her gorgeous looks. The actress could have played comedy scenes better, she was good with emotional ones. At some places though, her act seemed monotonous. Talking about the rest of the cast, Anubhav Singh Bassi, Dimple Kapadia, and lnayat Verma tickle our funny bones every time they appear on the screen. Boney Kapoor leaves an impact despite a meaty role. We wish to see more of his acting chops.

Talking of other technical aspects, the cinematography is in sync with the theme of the film. While Akiv Ali’s editing could have been a bit more crispier.

On the musical front, the songs do leave an impression as it’s well woven with the tonality of the film.

Conclusion

Despite its share of ups and downs, TJMM makes up for an entertaining ride which makes you laugh and think in equal measures.
