Pain behind Soyab Ali’s cute smile

Mumbai, Soyab Ali, a happy-go-lucky Superstar Singer 2 participant, is frequently seen challenging Captain Salman Ali to take his captain’s chair away from him. We had no idea, however, that the chota package bada dhamaka was bearing a heavy burden of melancholy due to his family’s financial situation.

Judge Alka Yagnik is curious to learn more about Soyab Ali than just a contestant with his eyes on the captain’s chair before his performance. Soyab breaks it down and shares “I belong to a very poor family and I believe poor people do not get heard, so I did not feel like sharing my story. I lost my sister last time when I came for this show and this time my father lost his one eye. As we do not have money we are not being able to afford medical help which breaks my heart. I want to get educated and improve the condition of my house as well as my village. I want to make a difference.”

Soyab’s captain Pawandeep Rajan, along with the other captains, committed to financially support Soyab in order to help him complete his schooling. Captain Salman, affected by Soyab’s story, said, “When I also started my singing journey, even my conditions weren’t that great and since both of us come from the same place I know what you are going through as well. But, I want to tell you that the platform you are on today has so much of power to change your future; and I am sure everything will soon change for you, that too for the good.”

Soyab and his captain gave a heartfelt performance, singing ‘Arziyaan’ after turning their grief into strength. Their performance was magical on stage, mesmerising everyone, especially the song’s original performer, judge Javed Ali.

This heart-warming moment on stage, as well as the captains’ sweet gesture, demonstrate how this Superstar Singer 2 team has evolved into a Great Indian Joint Family.
