Mumbai: Whoever has seen Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui has one unanimous opinion that Vaani Kapoor is the life of the film. Her strong and sensitive portrayal of a trans woman named Manvi Brar won millions of hearts and finally established her among the big league of Bollywood actresses. The diva is all set to sizzle on the big screen again in Shamshera in which she has been paired opposite superstar Ranbir Kapoor.

During a media interaction, the actress opened up about life post-Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, receiving unconventional roles post that, and what she admires about Ranbir Kapoor.

Excerpts:

Do you believe that Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui is a game-changer for you in every way?

I don’t know about the change but I have gotten a lot of love as an actor from all corners. I feel like the industry has given me that position of being an actor. They are seeing me in a different light and I feel great about it as it motivates me to do better. All I hope now is that I get enough opportunities to push my envelope.

Are you being offered more unconventional roles?

That film did really good for me as an actor and as an individual as it was something settling for me as an artist. Honestly, a lot of filmmakers who were on my list called me and lauded my performance giving me the acknowledgement as an actor. You know some films you do to fuel your strength as an actor like to grow and evolve. I am extremely grateful to Abhishek Kapoor for giving me this opportunity and Ayushmann Khurranna for being a supportive co-star.

How was it working with Ranbir and a quality about him you appreciate the most?

In an attempt to make my scenes impactful, I tend to stress and overthink. But Ranbir’s effortless off-camera and on-screen is just mind-blowing. The moment director says action, he transitions into the person he is expected to be. I hope I can again have the honour to work with him as I genuinely have so much respect for him, for the actor he is. You know, he’s one of those non-egoistical co-actors who have absolutely no star-like behaviour. He is a down-to-earth, very humble, and approachable person”.
