Relationships and festivals have long been glorified in Indian cinema. Despite their preference for love stories, several films have highlighted the sibling connection. As Raksha Bandhan approaches, let us look at several films that encapsulate the love of siblings through their storylines.

Raksha Bandhan (2022)
The release of this film coincides with the day of the festival. The comedy-drama, starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar, is about a brother who wants to marry off his four sisters before marrying his childhood love. It emphasises the brothers’ unshakable tie and handles the problem of dowry.

Sarbjit (2016)
The biographical drama, directed by Omung Kumar, is based on the life of farmer Sarbjit, who lives in Bhikiwind, Punjab, near the Indo-Pak border. Randeep Hooda played the title character. Sarbjit was mistaken for an Indian spy and condemned to death by the Pakistani government. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan played his sister, who struggled for her brother’s release.

Dil Dhadakne Do (2015)
Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra (Ayesha and Kabir) played siblings in Zoya Akhtar’s film. It tells the story of an affluent and dysfunctional family as they arrange a cruise holiday for relatives and friends.

Bole Bumm Bumm (2010)
Darsheel Safary, Atul Kulkarni, Rituparna Sengupta, and Ziyah Vastani starer directed by Priyadarshan, tell the story of two siblings who decide to share a pair of shoes until their father can afford to buy a new pair. However, things are uncertain because their father is being investigated for criminal charges and is unable to find work.

Hain Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999)
The love in the family is central to Sooraj R. Barjatya’s family drama. The film emphasises the enormous respect and unselfish love brothers have for one another. Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Karisma Kapoor, and Sonali Bendre are the stars in it.
