Raksha Bandhan Special Ishita Dutta: I started celebrating Raksha Bandhan with pomp post my marriage

Raksha Bandhan is a very special celebration of the bond between a brother and a sister. Every year on this day, a sister ties a rakhi on her brother’s hand, and the brother promises to protect her.

Ahead of the festival, actress Ishita Dutta who is best known for her shows like Thoda Sa Baadal Thoda Sa Paani, Bepanah Pyar and Ek Ghar Banaunga reveals what the festival means to her and also shared how she celebrates it every year.

Talking about how she celebrates this day, the actress stated, “So Raksha Bandhan back in school days would not be such a big festival for us because most of my cousins lived in different cities as they were studying. So I used to tie rakhi to my rakhi-brothers in school. But once I came to Bombay and got married I think that is when I started celebrating Raksha Bandhan with pomp. It is becasuse at my in-law’s place celebrating Raksha Bandhan is a big thing.”

She further added, “So all my bhuas, like my father-in-law’s sister comes home, and we have this big dinner plan at home where all the 3 generations are tying rakhi to each other. Its a lot of fun and I really look forward to it. This year also we are going to do the same, where the entire family is going to come at my in-laws place and we are going to have dinner and celebrate Raksha Bandhan.”

Talking about the significance of the festival, the actress averred, “So Raksha Bandan is not a festival that i have celebrated a lot when we were kids because for Bengali’s Bhai Phota is celebrated with fervour. It falls around Diwali and is similar to Raksha Bandhan. During that time our whole family comes together and we celebrate that. But all I can say is that the bond that we sisters that we share with brother is very special. I dont have my own brothers but I do have a lot of cousins and they have always been very protective of me. I have always looked up to them and I really miss them. It’s unfortunate that they are all in different cities and countries so we dont get to meet each other. But of course, thanks to social media we are very well connnected and both on raksha bandan and Bhai Phota we connect and exchange our blessings with each other.
