Kamal Haasan’s mega-blockbuster made history became highest grosser in TN

Mumbai: Vikram made history by earning the highest ever box office revenue in Tamil Nadu. With earnings from the morning of Saturday, Kamal Haasan’s mega-blockbuster passed Baahubali 2, which had been in theatres for five years, and was only a few lakhs behind the record as of yesterday. The movie is also anticipated to surpass Rs. 150 crores today, setting a new record for Tamil Nadu’s box office. Vikram might surpass Rs. 175 crores at the box office, based on how well it is performing.

With Vikram, a non-Baahubali movie is now the most grossing movie in all of South India, while Baahubali 2 continues to be the highest grossing movie in all of North India.

In Tamil Nadu, Kamal Haasan has a long history of films with record box office success. Three of them are Indian, Apoorva Sagodharargal, and Sakalakala Vallavan. There may be others, but due to past limitations in box office tracking, some of them may be disputed and some likely had no reporting at all. With Sakalakala Vallavan becoming the record grosser in 1982 and Vikram capturing the record in 2022, the venerable actor now has top grossers in his name throughout a 40-year period. A lion is a lion, forever…

The following are the top 10 highest-grossing movies in Tamil Nadu:
