Synopsis

The movie is the journey of two plus-size women, Meerut’s Rajshree Trivedi and New Delhi’s Saira Khanna, as they navigate society’s beauty standards.

Review

The film begins by establishing a basic storyline about how plus-size women face rejection despite their talent. The film tells the story of two girls from different backgrounds and cultures who meet in a vulnerable state and become each other’s support.

Double XL is a social comedy-drama based on a solid content idea but its execution simply falls flat. We have all grown up hearing that a woman’s size is a reason for rejection in both personal and professional life, and it is not something that surprises us. In short, the presentation was amateur rather than enticing.

The performances of star Mahat Raghavendra are the only redeeming features of this film in terms of character. Apart from Mahat, every other character in the film overact. Sonakshi, Huma, and Zaheer appear in the film to perform drama that is not even necessary. The last 15 minutes of the film are when the actors truly deliver the emotions.

It looks like the heart in the script of the movie is in the right place but all the other organs are placed in the wrong position. It appears that the industry is in desperate need of a good dialogue writer because there are better conversations in a school play than in this film.

This film is technically deficient in every way. The filmmaker attempt to inject some humour by creating overly dramatic characters, but has failed miserably. Condolences to the cameramen, who have really done a good job of capturing the beauty of London and seizing some good frames.

Talking about some really bizarre sequences, Sonakshi’s on-screen boyfriend cheats on her, and his new girlfriend is standing on the balcony with only one blanket. The writer thought it was a good idea to let Sonakshi grab the blanket and leave the girl standing on the balcony without clothes. How can this possibly be entertaining?

In one scene, Sonakshi and Huma are discussing their trauma and act drunk while drinking milkshakes. ‘Itni overacting?’

To add a sense of humour, everyone tries to be loud, which serves as a reason to pop ‘Saridon.’ The plot is clearly predictable, and there isn’t a single good thing in the film other than the idea and music.

When it comes to movie songs, this film may not be great, but Javed Ali’s song at the end will steal your heart. The song will touch your soul and make you feel alive. Overall, it is fair to say that the film has a good sound score.

Conclusion

As previously stated, the film has a nice concept, but it is not how it should be delivered to the audience. There is no harm in skipping the film and sleeping in the comfort of your own home.
