After first appearing in Chote Nawab (1962), Lucky Ali had acted in a few films in the 1970s and 1980s. He later appeared in Sanjay Gupta's Kaante and shared screen space with Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Suniel Shetty. However, after a much needed break, singer Lucky Ali was seen in Sur-The Melody of Life that earned him accolades as an actor. However, the husky-honey voiced singer doesn’t wish to act anymore.

Elaborating further, he said, “I am never again acting in my life. Half way near my grave, I have finally decided no more acting. However, I might direct a film but I am not too keen on acting because that's acting. I like the idea of being and not the idea of acting. Unfortunately in the cinema industry, there is no real character; whether it is a movie showing bravado or god, for me that is all lame. That is not real. For me reality is vibration, people ideating and progressing and doing something productive, stretching themselves in whatever field, whether it is growing a plant or sweeping the floor to making a song or acting in a film. The beauty lies in being honest in your work.”

Being the son of India’s finest comedian Mehmood and nephew of Meena Kumari, Lucky Ali indeed has a huge legacy to carry forward. However, the 58-year-old begs to differ. “I haven’t built one yet so I cannot articulate it. My legacy? How can I speak about my legacy? I am so and so, it sounds rubbish,” he added.

“Everybody has their moment of expression. They can either stagnate or move with time or remain fresh that is up to what the mind is thinking. I still perform at concerts regularly. We enjoy what we do and we hope that everybody enjoys what we do. What we want to do is actually enhanced the experience with the given technology. Whatever I do on stage, I don’t do on the album,” said the man born Maqsood Mahmood Ali.

On asked what his fans should expect from him in the following year to which a light-hearted Lucky said, “I don’t even know what to expect from myself but whatever is happening is good.”
